Phis Participate in Red Bull Chariot Race
On Saturday March 27, Brothers Wood (‘06), Buuck (‘09), and Cochran (‘09) transformed themselves into the Dukes of Knoxville to participate in the 1st Annual Red Bull Chariot race, a competition pitting teams of two-man-powered chariots with a driver against each other.
To start off, the team had to build their chariot. Numerous Brothers spent the night prior to the race helping build the chariot to perfection. Late into Friday night, the “General Lee” chariot was finally completed and ready to compete after a paint job.
On Saturday afternoon, around 2pm, the Brothers headed down to Market Square to set up for the race. At 3pm, with multiple teams ready to challenge for the trophy, the races began. Teams consisted of three members who came from all over Tennessee, and the audience was full of spectators who came out to enjoy the festivities and cheer on the racers.
The Phi Delts were victorious their first two races, advancing to the championship. Unfortunately, in their final race the “Dukes of Knoxville” were defeated by a narrow margin, settling for 2nd Place.
